How do you ask your manager for a raise?

In short

Ask in a meeting, with a number, and with work you already wrote down. Do not drop a manifesto in Slack on a Friday. Log wins when they happen. Before the conversation, polish a short list of shipped work with metrics your manager can reuse in their own room. State the number or band you want and why the scope matches. Puvio is the vault and the export. It is not a negotiation coach and it will not email your manager. Wins is $5/month. Complete at $29 already includes the vault. A raise is not the same as a promotion packet. Kenji Watanabe used the vault for a skip-level rating. Lena Vasquez used it for calibration. Bring receipts either way.

A question with a fact-first answer underneath
Question on top. Direct answer under it. That is how these pages are written.
  1. 1

Write the work down before you need it

Log wins when they ship. A raise talk in September cannot recover January from memory.

  2. 2

    Polish a short evidence list

Scope, metrics, who else saw it. Export from Puvio if that is where the vault lives. One to two pages, not a memoir.

  3. 3

Book a meeting and say the number

Compensation conversation, not a vague “how am I doing.” A band or a percent. They cannot advocate without a target.

  4. 4

Leave them something they can forward

Your manager argues in rooms you are not in. A PDF or bullets they can paste beats a speech they have to reconstruct.

Raise versus promotion

A raise is more money in the same seat. A promotion is a new level and usually a packet. Do not mix the asks in one dump unless your company uses one process for both.

Puvio’s brag export is useful for either. The conversation is still yours. https://puvio.app/answers/how-to-document-wins-for-promotion

What managers can actually use

Numbers, scope, customers, reliability. Not “I have grown a lot this year.” Kenji’s director quoted a migration metric from a one-pager. Story: https://puvio.app/stories/skip-level-evidence

Related questions

When is a good time to ask for a raise?
After shipped work is visible, and before your company’s compensation cycle locks. Bring receipts, not a surprise. https://puvio.app/answers/how-to-ask-your-manager-for-a-raise
What if my company has no raise cycle until review season?
Still keep the vault. Lena Vasquez’s manager used a brag doc in calibration. The document has to exist before the room. https://puvio.app/stories/review-without-blank-doc
Will Puvio tell me what number to ask for?
No. It stores what you shipped. Compensation bands are your market, your manager, and your company. https://puvio.app/answers/what-is-puvio
