How do you ask for an informational interview on LinkedIn?

In short

Ask for fifteen minutes and one specific question. Do not attach a résumé in the first note. Do not ask them to hire you. Open with shared context or their work, then the question, then the time box. Informational chats are how people learn a team before they apply, and how career changers get in without a fake title. Puvio Quick Message takes any LinkedIn profile URL. No job card required. It drafts from your record and their public profile, runs a critic pass, and you copy and send. Ten credits. Puvio never sends the message.

A question with a fact-first answer underneath
Question on top. Direct answer under it. That is how these pages are written.
  1. 1

Pick a person, not a posting

Someone whose work you can name. Alumni help. Paste their LinkedIn URL into Quick Message if you use Puvio.

  2. 2

Ask one question you cannot Google

How platform PMs partner with that team. What broke in the last launch. Not “tell me about your journey.”

  3. 3

    Time-box it

Fifteen minutes. Offer two windows or ask them to pick. Do not send a Calendly wall in the first note.

  4. 4

Leave the résumé off the first send

If they want it, they will ask. Copy the draft. Send it from your account. If a role exists, apply after they expect your name.

What an informational ask is not

It is not a covert job application. If the first line is “I applied to your opening,” you already wrote a follow-up. Use the follow-up page for that.

It is not a podcast interview with you as host. One question. They are at work.

When this is the right first move

Career change, like Nadia Rahman moving from customer success toward product ops. Internal curiosity, like Sofia Alvarez before an internal posting.

The record already holds the work. The note uses it. You still send it. Story: https://puvio.app/stories/career-change-notes
